BECOMING Catholic

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

Are you a student interested in becoming Catholic?

If you are looking to join the Catholic Church, the Newman Center invites you to join our OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) program. The OCIA program is designed to catechize and provide formation for those who are seeking to join the Catholic Church. Our OCIA program at the Newman Center is led by our Campus Minister and Director of Catechesis, Erin Shay.

Those in the OCIA program meet weekly to learn about and discuss topics of the Catholic faith, such as the sacraments, Scripture, salvation history, the Church’s moral teachings, and many more topics pertaining to the Catholic faith. The OCIA program culminates at the Easter Vigil when catechumens (those to be baptized) and candidates (those who were already baptized in another Christian tradition but need to be received into the Catholic Church) receive or complete the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, & Holy Communion)

If you would like to join our OCIA program, or are thinking about becoming Catholic but have some questions, please contact our Campus Minister and Director of Catechesis, Erin Shay, at erin@udcatholic.org.

Are you already a Catholic but need to receive First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation?

Sometimes it happens that someone was baptized as a Catholic—often times as an infant—but never went on to receive the Eucharist or Confirmation. If you are someone in this situation, and would like to complete the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, & Holy Communion), we would love to help you at the Newman Center to receive these sacraments during your time in college.

Please contact our Campus Minister and Director of Catechesis, Erin Shay, to learn about the necessary steps and formation to complete the Sacraments of Initiation: erin@udcatholic.org.
